Foul shots cost the Lady Knights

January 9, 2013
Tyler Star News

The Tyler Consolidated Lady Knight varsity basketball team has faced some tough competition of late, taking on all comers and have amassed a 4-5 win/loss record thus far in the 2012-13 season. With their schedule not looking to get any easier or less busy on the horizon, the Silver and Black have their work cut out for them in order to make some noise by the time post season rolls around.

On Jan. 3 at Ravenswood, the Lady Knights took on the Lady Devils, falling to their hosts, 73-66.

Consolidated stayed even with Ravenswood in the first period of play but found themselves falling behind in the second and headed to the half-time break with a 12 point deficit, 38-26.

The second half of the game saw the most exciting action of the day with both teams turning up their defensive play, but the Knights still came out on the short end of the score, 73-66.

"For the last few games, our missed free throws have cost us," said head coach of the Lady Knights, Matt Kinnard. "Right now we're only shooting 48 percent. Seriously, if we were hitting 60 percent we would have probably won the last four games. We've got to do better at the line."

Against Ravenswood, senior Knight Torrye Cline led the way in points with 25. Cline also pulled down four rebounds, had one steal and one assist in the game. Sydney Reed scored 16 points, had four rebounds, one steal and four assists; Sophie Kinnard, 14 points, eight rebounds, one steal and two assists; Megan Carpenter added six points, had three rebounds, two steals and an assist; Allison Wable had five points, five rebounds, one steal and two assists; Hilary Casteel, five rebounds; and Ariel Fish, one rebound.

The Lady Knights played at Doddridge on Monday and will see action in the Boggs Family Pizza and Grill Roundball Tourn-ament on Jan. 10. The team will face off with Magnolia in the second game of the night, at around 7-7:30 p.m. following the Wirt County - Frontier game at 6 p.m.
