One in critical condition after accident

The Tyler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accident that resulted in one person being air lifted to a Morgantown hospital.

MIDDLEBOURNE – One person was airlifted and two juveniles were taken to hospitals Saturday as a result of a head-on collision on W.Va. 18 at the Kidwell Bridge.

According to the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened at 8:25 p.m. Saturday just south of the Exxon station at the Kidwell Bridge. A vehicle being driven by Candice Rice of Wheeling was traveling northbound when it allegedly went left of center, striking a vehicle being driven southbound by Christina Ferrell of Middlebourne. Ferrell’s vehicle also contained three juvenile passengers.

Rice was trapped in her vehicle and was eventually removed by responders from the Middlebourne and Sistersville fire departments. Rice was flown from the scene by Airevac 78 to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, where her condition was unknown as of late Tuesday.

Two juveniles were taken from the scene to Sistersville General Hospital for injuries. One of the juveniles was later transferee to Ruby Memorial Hospital. Their conditions were also unknown as of Tuesday evening.

The accident remains under investigation by the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office. Other responding agencies included the Alma and Shirley fire departments.
