Dear Editor:

On Sunday, Feb. 19 at 9 a.m. the Sistersville Volunteer Fire Department and Paden City Volunteer Fire Company battled a blaze on South Wells Street in Sistersville. I would like to take this time to thank all the men and women from both departments for your hard work. Although the fire was beyond our control, you all made an aggressive exterior attack and kept the fire from spreading to the adjacent houses.

Second,I would also like to thank Lifetime Firefighter’s Bill Rice and Jeff Hizer for giving us a hand. You two put aside your plans you had made to give us two sets of “extra hands.”

Bill took over the pump operations which allowed myself to assist in the fireground operations. When Bill needed a break, Jeff stepped up to the plate and took over pump operations. Jeff also assisted us in rolling and cleaning hose after we were cleared from the scene which cut our down time and we were able to get the trucks back in service. Although not active members, you went above and beyond and did what should have been done as any member of the department would have.

Last but not least,I would also like to thank Linda Leasure for purchasing lunch for the members of the department. Without you doing so,our members would not have had a chance to eat until late that afternoon. Without hesitation, you ordered enough for our guys to replenish themselves before we finished clearing the scene. In the end,I would like to say that I am proud of and grateful to all these crucial members of the community especially the Volunteer Firefighters.

Please remember to support your local fire departments,as community support is the most important donation you may give.

Thank you,

Jason Wayne
