Inaction in action

By Staff | Jan 12, 2011

We hear the grumbling of dissatisfaction with our government every day as discontented voters lash out public officials. Locally, this unease is visible on the Tyler Star Message Board.

It is apparent by the unease, that our neighbors are looking for change.

Unfortunately, when the opportunity to enact change arises, we fail to take part in government by voting, attending council meetings and speaking out for or against the issues at hand.

Plato said, “The punishment which the wise suffer, who refuse to take part in government, is to live under the government of worse men.”

Judging by one of our recent polls, 80 percent of the people who answered do not attend council meetings. Inaction in action!

If you are looking for change in local leadership or policy, you have to do more than complain about it in online forums.
