Dear Editor:

On Sunday May 30, the small but wonderful town of Middlebourne will come alive with the Dedication of a Civil War Monument. Folks have waited 145 years to witness this happen. You will see President Abraham Lincoln come down Main Street in his carriage, being escorted to the Court House by six Civil War Soldiers, flanked by four out-riders on horses, while Tyler Consolidated Band plays Hail to the Chief.

Hold your ears because the Civil War Cannon makes a very loud boom. The raising of the flag by the Civil War Soldiers, yes a 35 star flag will fly from the Court House flag pole and President Lincoln will be laying a wreath at the base of the Monument honoring all the Civil War Soldiers from Tyler County.

There will be a selection of Civil War songs that will be playing for your enjoyment before the program begins at 2 p.m. Your children and grandchildren will get a most valuable history lesson that they will remember for years to come. You are encouraged to bring a lawn chair to make the event most comfortable for you during this most historical event. Programs will be available with the names of the Civil War Soldiers for you to keep. There is a lot to see and learn at the Dedication so make your plans now to attend with your family, at the Tyler County Court House, Middlebourne, WV on Sunday, May 30 at 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
