CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A new exhibit is highlighting the work of West Virginia artists.

The West Virginia Division of Culture and History says the display showcases the 18 works that were award winners in the biennial exhibition last year. The exhibit opens on Monday at the Culture Center in Charleston.

The winners were selected from 53 paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, photographs, mixed media and crafts created by West Virginia artists.

Jurors selected three $5,000 Governor's Award winners, seven $2,000 Awards of Excellence winners and eight $500 Merit Awards.

Winners of the Governor's Award and the Awards of Excellence were purchased and became part of the West Virginia State Museum's permanent collection.

The exhibit will be open through June 29.
