W.Va. justices uphold murder conviction

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The West Virginia Supreme Court has upheld the convictions of a man in the death of his girlfriend.

Ronald Carl Davis of Kenna is serving life without parole plus 20 years for setting a fire that killed 52-year-old Cathy Parsons in her home near Goldtown in September 2010. A Jackson County Circuit Court jury convicted Davis of first-degree murder and arson.

Davis appealed the convictions and sentences to the Supreme Court, which ruled against him Thursday. The court found no merit in any of his claims, including that the testimony of one witness should have been stricken and that some of his statements to investigators should not have been allowed as evidence.
