![]() Always under construction...I see...“I see dead people”. Everyone knows that famous line from The Sixth Sense. When Haley Joel Osment uttered those words, it gave me goosebumps. Well, much like the character in the movie, I see things as well. Not dead people though. No, I see shoes. All types of shoes. They haunt me. They baffle me. I see them wherever I go. Yes, I see shoes! I see them lying abandoned alongside highways. Just a single shoe. Never a pair. Just a solitary tennis shoe. Or flip-flop. Sometimes a loafer. Some old and worn, others looking quite new. Why? I have no idea. At some point, they were much needed accessories, but there they lay, amongst the empty pop bottles and chip bags, sad and lonely. I don’t look for them, I never give them much thought, until I see one. And it’s a pretty sure thing that I will see one. No one else seems to notice them, but I do. Why? At what point does a person decide that they no longer need two shoes, and toss one out of the car window? I don’t get it. I’ve heard tales of one child tossing another child’s toy out of the car, but never their shoe! Can anyone explain this to me? What prompts a person to toss a shoe out of a moving vehicle? You may not believe me, but I can guarantee that all I have to do is get in a car, drive for about half an hour in any direction, and I will see a shoe somewhere along the way. I have no explanation for this, so I’ll welcome any and all. Perhaps a real shoe tosser will comment on this and enlighten me. And no, I’m not hallucinating. All I can say is, I’m glad it’s only shoes that I see, and not dead people!
