One last go for local gridiron heroes
High School football is back, better than ever, as eight area graduate football players will put on the blue game jerseys of West Virginia for the OVAC All-Star game July 27 at Wheeling Island Stadium. The contest will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Proposal for class change voted down
The state Board of Education recently voted down a proposal for the WVSSAC to have four classifications in football and boys and girls basketball by a unanimous 9-0 vote.
Five new faces reach victory lane
The Tyler County Speedway hosted their popular ‘Hillbilly Qualifiers’, along with the inaugural ‘Steel Block Mafia’ sanctioned invitational race. Five new faces in the ‘AT&T Victory Lane’ and outstanding racing action among the 146 racers rewarded the fans in attendance.
Courtney Evans benefit scheduled
The inaugural Courtney Evans Memorial Scholarship 4-person Golf Scramble has been scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 3, at Mingo Bottom Golf Club in Elizabeth, W.Va.
Silver Knights golf to hold practice
The Tyler Consolidated High School Golf Team will begin practices at the Sistersville Country Club on Monday, Aug. 4, at 8:00 a.m. Any boy or girl in grades 9-12 at Tyler Consolidated interested in trying out for the team should plan to attend.

Aukland wants another IRS ChampionshipBullring races rescheduled
The veteran Zanesville, Ohio hot-shoe may just have his shot at another Independent Racing Series title after picking up his first event win of the season while becoming the eighth different winner during the Fifth Annual Eaton/Childers ‘King of the Ring’ event at the Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne on Saturday Night in front of a packed house.
Bullring races rescheduled
BDS Promotions announced a rescheduling of the ‘Hillbilly Qualifier’ event originally set for this coming Thursday night. The event will now run on Saturday July 19, featuring $2000 to win feature events for both the ‘Midcap Land & Timber’ Late Model division, and the ‘Steel Block Mafia’ sanctioned Late Model feature. Additionally, the winner of the ‘Sistersville Center/ Genesis Health Care’ AMRA modified main will earn $700.

Softball camp a hit
During the week of June 9 through 13, participants and their parents enjoyed the warm weather and were schooled on fast pitch softball techniques. Coaches Roger Smith and Charlene Galluzzo said they were pleased with the enthusiasm and progress the campers made throughout the week.
Fulks win St. Marys bass contest
Butch and Cindy Fulks of Sistersville recently competed in and brought home the first place prize at the St. Marys Bass Festival.
